The first time I heard about HPV’s, Human Powered Vehicle’s, was when I was about 13, which was 24 years ago, and my then home town of Milton Keynes had it’s first Human Powered Vehicle Festival near the Central Milton Keynes Shopping Center.
If I remember correctly, there was a series of short races on the Friday, with a 24 hours charity race starting on the Saturday morning, plus a 200 meter time trail event on a near by dual carriage way on the Sunday afternoon.
After the event I researched HPV’s in my local libraries and came across the 1980 Guinness Book of Records which had a HPV called White Lightning, which was then the World Land Speed Record holder, with a speed of 61.04mph. It was also the winners of the $3000 Abbot prize offered by Dr. Allan Abbot for the first vehicle to exceed 55mph. Ever since then I have wanted to design, build and race my own HPV.
I designed and built my first HPV as part of my GCSE in Technology, but that was over 22 years ago, and now it’s time, at the ago of 37, to design and build my second HPV.
ChasingTime.net is the dairy of this process and hopefully the attempts at the World Records.
theBloomingPoint.com is the site that I will be using to keep track of all the components that I my need to use during this project. Plus video’s, and info on other HPV’s.
